Dear Beverly,

Hammer toes most frequently occur due to tight or badly fitting shoes, very commonly being tight high heeled sandals. These reduce the blood supply to the toes, causing the muscles to contract and remain contracted permanently, called contracture.

The most obvious treatment is to where shoes which have more space for the toes. Also manually stretching your toes is also a good idea to prevent the condition. Daily exercise of the toes by doing exercises such as crumpling towels with toes, or trying to lift objects with your toes also helps.

A warm towel massage with a wet towel warmed to about 100-110 degree Fahrenheit placed under the toes improves blood supply and can reduce pain substantially. Surgery should be the last option to be considered if all other treatments have failed.

I have had a lot of swollen lymph nodes on my body for 3 weeks now. Some in my neck, right back side of my head, and one under my jaw on the right side. Iv'e also had some painful stomach and chest pains during these 3 weeks that are on and off. I'm 16 years old, excercise every day, and only drink water, I would say i'm very healthy. But not now, and i'm in what I think is a very serious situation. About 1 week and 1/2 ago I was prescribed amoxicillin and clavulanate by a clinic doctor. I just finished my prescription about 2 days ago and my symptoms are still here. The node under my jaw is still the same size, mobile, and painless unless I swallow water, it kind of hurts. And this morning my throat feels very raw. My throat doesn't really hurt when i swallow water, it just feels very raw. I'm so worried. worst is, I don't have insurance with my aunt. I have to wait until I move back with my mom June 7th. It is May 18th, can I wait? I'm so scared of lymphoma. please help me. Thank yo

I was just in the hospital for 5 day for a case of cellulittis on a old brown recluse spider bite not the first time it has come back. cultures all came back clear where going to discharge me yesterday but then they finally noticed I was running a high temp so I stayed an extra day. Dr came in this morning and wanted me to stay again. Said new test were showing a severe platelet low count but then they decided I was somehow injecting my leg with something and decided I was to be under constant from that point on including bathroom. They heard something a hospital made up yrs ago when first was bitten and they had never seen it before. Other hospital said possible brown recluse spider bite after I went thre 2 debreivment and 2 months on iv antibiotics. What concerns are ther for a very low platelet level. I walked out of the hospital. And what can I be doing for home care
